Wait...I thought we got rid of caucuses in Colorado????

Answer: YES and NO

While Colorado no longer holds Presidential caucuses, the caucus & assembly process is still used by political parties to select the county, district, state and federal candidates who will appear on the ballot for the June 30 Primary.

Did you know that since we eliminated the Presidential caucuses in 2018, less than .05% of registered Democrats in Colorado participate in caucuses & county assemblies? This means an extremely minuscule sliver of the population selects the candidates who will appear before the general electorate on the Democratic Party Primary ballot for a chance to win the Party's nomination. So if you have a favorite candidate, it is important to make plans to support them by attending the Eagle County Caucus & County Assembly on Saturday, March 7 at 3:00 pm via Zoom.

What happens at caucus & county assembly?

The Eagle County Democrats will conduct both meetings on the same day, one right after the other, first caucus and then the county assembly. At our brief caucus meeting we will conduct some important Party business. All caucus attendees who are registered Democrats residing in Eagle County no later than Friday, February 13, 2026 will then be elected to serve as voting delegates to the county assembly.

The county assembly is where the magic happens. First, delegates will select which county-level candidates for the following races will appear on the Democratic Party's Primary Ballot. Candidates who receive at least 30% of the vote will appear on the Primary ballot.

-
Assessor
-
Clerk & Recorder
-
County Commissioner - District 3
-
Coroner
-
Surveyor
-
Treasurer
-
Sheriff

Next, the county delegates will vote for their preferred candidate in each of the following multi-county districts Eagle County is part of (see NOTE below.) Candidates who receive 15% or more of the vote will be eligible to receive delegates to the corresponding Multi-County District Assemblies (held virtually on dates TBD.)

-
House District 26 (11 delegates)
-
House District 57 (3 delegates)
-
Senate District 8 (11 delegates)
-
Congressional District 2 (11 delegates)
-
delegates to this Assembly will also select CU Regent candidate(s) to appear on the ballot
-
-
Congressional District 3 (3 delegates)
-
delegates to this Assembly will also select CO State Board of Education candidate(s) to appear on the ballot
-

Finally, delegates will vote for their preferred candidate for U.S. Senate. Candidates who receive 15% or more of the vote will be eligible to receive a proportional number of Eagle County's fourteen delegates to attend the State Assembly on March 28, 2026 in-person in Pueblo, Colorado. There, delegates from counties throughout Colorado will vote to place candidates for all statewide races on the Primary Ballot, including:

-
U.S. Senate,
-
Governor and Lt. Governor,
-
Attorney General,
-
Secretary of State, and
-
Treasurer

NOTE: Eagle County is split between two different State House, State Senate, and U.S. Congressional Districts. As a general rule, the Eagle River Valley is in CD2, SD8, and HD26 and the Roaring Fork Valley is in CD3, SD5, and HD57, although there are some exceptions.
