This discussion provides an accessible overview of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) also known as Forever Chemicals—where they came from, how they enter and persist in drinking water and wastewater systems, and what’s currently being done to regulate and remove them. We’ll explore the history of PFAS use, pathways of contamination, emerging federal and state regulations, and the latest treatment technologies being applied in the field.
About the InstructorAndrew Ryder holds a B.S. in Chemistry from Northern Arizona University (2014) and has worked in environmental analysis since 2017. He joined the Eagle River Water & Sanitation District in 2023, where he focuses on water quality and emerging contaminants.
